Tack coat is a necessity when it comes to laying roadway applications. Without it, pavement is subject to debonding, slippage and cracking. But tack coat also presents a number of issues: proper, even coverage is difficult to achieve; curing time restricts paving construction; and tack can be tracked easily onto clean roads.  Saint-Gobain ADFORS has developed a new product that offers the benefits of tack coat without all the inherent problems: GlasGrid® TF (Tack Film). It contains a patent-pending, highly engineered film designed to replace the need for a tack coat. The fiberglass grid provides protection against reflective cracking, while the tack film enhances performance of the overlay, resulting in extended life.

When installed between 2 layers of asphalt, Glasgrid CG is effective at reinforcing both flexible and rigid pavements. The system has 2 uses: as a preventive maintenance measure with new construction and as a means of delaying the recurrence of cracks in pavement rehabilitation projects. Self Adhesive Fiberglass Asphalt Reinforcement for Milled Surfaces - GlasGrid CGL

GlasGrid® CGL is a composite material consisting of a high-tensile fiberglass grid bonded to an open lightweight nonwoven polyester geotextile (~35g/m²). The grid has a high mesh stiffness due to the consistent impregnation of each glass filament with Adfors patented polymer coating in order to reach an effective bonding between asphalt layers. The lightweight geotextile works as a bonding support and offers a high asphalt retention, which ensures a quick and efficient installation.
